While brain teasers can be a fun and engaging way to promote critical thinking, it's important to note that critical thinking is a broader skill that can be developed through various activities, including analyzing literature, engaging in debates, and solving real-world problems. Brain teasers can be a valuable component of a more comprehensive approach to building critical thinking skills.

What if I made a cartoon with a three ghosts flying around and ask, “how many ghosts do you see? If you answered 3 you’re wrong because ghosts don’t exist you idiot!” And animate the ghosts disappearing. This is clearly what you just did with the egg. My critical thinking skills are off the charts!

I found the questions kinda stupid and not really helping in improving critical thinking. There was a logical fallacy in the answer to the second question because the second brain teaser question, “Which do you light first?” implies which one of the things mentioned would you light first. The answer would be correct if the question were “What do you light first?”
@benbelzer8303

I'm not so sure these are "brain teasers", they seem more like trick questions. These would actually discourage a kid from wanting to do more. A better scenario would be solving crimes.

@worzi3
30.09.2024
You saig "A Rooster lays an egg" I allowed that for the hypothetical, as that is what I thought the query wanted. I thought you were using poetic license to make your point about the egg.
@stenhealey7320
30.09.2024
I honestly thought to myself "a rooster can't lay an egg" then immediately disregarded that as a solution (which is a weakness I admit) but I did so because in my experience people are by and large aren't very well informed. Some people think that pineapples grow on trees, and I grew up somewhere (in the third world) where they thought that chickens could only lay eggs when a rooster was involved and there are so many more examples of this.
Also if you are in a dark room with single match, a lamp, candle and stove you can't light the match because matches can't be lit without a striker strip – unless you have a very specific type of match. So the presenter is falling prey to the exact same issue he described.
@amyj.4992
30.09.2024
